Stardew Valley is a game that never really clicked with me like it has with other people. My partner has over 600 hours clocked on it. I have less than five. But I can’t deny that there is something about its gameplay loop and relative freedom of choice that makes me want to give it another try.
Freelancer Joseph Knoop has probably made the best, most emotional case for it I’ve ever read. In an article for PC Gamer, he writes about how Stardew Valley’s moments of small victory, working hard toward larger goals, and the necessity of personal upkeep have reignited his drive towards recovery. He connects to his avatar in a way I don’t think I’ve ever done.
