I’m pretty heavily biased towards editorials in my features, so this time I wanted to switch it up and show off an example of excellent reporting.
For context, there was a minor kerfuffle about the new Spider-Man game looking ever so slightly worse than the teaser footage. Writing for VG24/7, Kirk McKeand set the record straight on “downgrades” with solid research on the topic and interviews with developers who have personal experience with trailer footage not matching the finished product. It’s an interesting peek behind the curtain of both the development and business sides of the industry, something we don’t get enough of, in my opinion. I also appreciate the small bits of humor sprinkled throughout the article. It gave the report a distinct personal voice and made is a much more pleasant read.
