Intolerance and L.A. Noire

Writing for Waypoint, Ed Smith details Phelps’ encounter with the set of Intolerance in L.A. Noire. The sprawling, epic film is now considered something of a classic but its poor box office showing signaled a change in the United States. Smith grapples with this–and its role in L.A. Noire–revealing, in Smith fashion, deeper meaning:

“When you visit the Intolerance movie set, during a mission from L.A. Noire’s traffic desk, little of this is known. The set itself however points to the venality, mismanagement and eponymous intolerance that will eventually lead to the collapse of an empire.”
