A Piece of History

I have something slightly different for you all this time: an announcement of sorts. I saw a Guardian article about a games criticism book from the 80’s that is getting a long-sought-after reprint. Martin Amis’s Invasion of the Space Invaders: An Addict’s Guide to Battle Tactics, Big Scores and the Best Machines is a classic and influential work of games criticism that should be of interest for both fans of games criticism and people interested in the history of the medium. It provides a snapshot of the New York arcade scene of the early 1980’s and the people who would line up around the block with quarters in hand.

The Guardian article is worth reading as well. It makes a strong case for the book by providing just enough of a teaser to whet the appetite, alongside some stellar prose from Simon Parkin that had the enthusiasm for the book practically pouring off my computer monitor.
